Hesket, Victoria
This weatherboard farm home has an expansive subfloor space with large gaps between the timber facing (plinth) boards.
The subfloor space while closed has large gaps between the horizontal timbers to allow for ventilation. The assessment for the home was BAL 29 kW/m2 and the customer was looking for protection against embers around the subfloor as this was the significant risk they had identified.
USED PRODUCT
Bushfire Mesh TOUGH
Subfloor
The customer installed Bushfire Mesh Shield – TOUGH as it provides an excellent protection against embers. TOUGH was easily installed behind the timber and did not take anything away from the feel of the home. As it is behind the horizontal timbers, the shield is not required to keep animals out but works well to keep bees and wasps out.
Installation was completed using a heavy duty stapler and some tin snips to cut the pieces. If you look closely you can see the shield behind the timber and the installation doesn’t detract from the home.
About Hesket
Hesket, a town in Victoria, has a long-standing relationship with bushfires due to its forested surrounds and dry climate. The town was significantly impacted by Black Saturday in 2009 which caused extensive damage to the community. Since then, residents have been taking safety measures into their own hands and actively installing Bushfire Mesh Shield as part of their robust bushfire management plan.
