Taylors Reserve in Clareville presented a complex remediation challenge due to its steep, coastal terrain and history of demolition waste. By installing custom stainless steel gabion mesh retaining walls, the project delivered a durable, low-maintenance solution that ensures long-term stability and environmental resilience.
Taylors Reserve, Clareville, was historically used as a dumping ground for demolition waste, resulting in a steep ocean-front batter at the rear of a private residential property. The challenging gradient of the site required all works to be completed under harness, with bulk materials delivered by barge. Northern Beaches Council provided the geotechnical design, and Rare Environmental managed the remediation, which included asbestos management, site grading, and the construction of a robust retaining wall system.
The site’s steep slope and coastal exposure meant a retaining wall was essential to stabilise the area, allow for effective water drainage, and withstand harsh environmental conditions. The presence of asbestos and limited site access further complicated the project, requiring careful planning and execution
