Anti Climb Mesh

Our Stainless Steel 358 Mesh, also known as anti-climb mesh and security mesh, is designed for high-security applications. This robust and durable mesh offers excellent resistance to cutting and climbing, ensuring maximum protection.

The 358 mesh effectively prevents unauthorized access due to its rectangular spacing of horizontal and vertical wires, making it unclimbable while still allowing visibility. The panels are designed to be installed upright, with dimensions of 2400mm vertical by 1200mm horizontal. The mesh features 75mm spacing running vertically and 13mm spacing running horizontally.

We think so too. We have often thought of cutting these down and selling them as BBQ grills. The boss has said that while it is Stainless Steel, the heat transfer co-efficient between the heat and the stainless steel is not great. If we get any reject sheets, we may cut it down but as you know the quality of our products is high and we have never had a problem so far.
Chain link security fencing is the diamond shape fencing with large opening (50mm pitch) and small wire diameter (3.15mm) that meets the AS 1725 – 2010 Part 1. This is the Australian Standard for fencing in Australia and the diamond shape can still be climbed. While this fencing is considered as Security fencing it is not considered as anti-climb. This fencing is typically used as the outside perimeter fencing as the first line of defence and the 358 welded mesh panel fencing is used as the last line of defence.  This product can be easily climbed and because of the large pitch can be easily cut with bolt cutters. SSWM can also supply Stainless steel Grade 316 Chain link Mesh. This product has the same pitch, it has a slightly smaller wire diameter as it is a stronger wire and there is no corrosion allowance unlike the Galvanised products.
Our panels come in the standard 2400 mm x 1200 mm panels. The panels are approximately 26kgs and come in packs of 25 or 650kg nett.   Our standard panels at 2400 mm high can be used to meet the British Standard BS 1722-14 for Category 1 & 2.  We can supply larger sizes on request with a 10-week lead time to meet your requirements to satisfy the Category 3 & 4 requirements.
There are several different features that should be highlighted such as:
  • The closeness of the wires:
    • it is virtually impossible to use a bolt cutter to cut the wires.
    • Very difficult to use a crowbar to pry the wires apart
  • The Open Area of 65.5% still allows:
    • Excellent airflow and ventilation
    • Good visibility so you can see what is happening behind the barrier
These fences are placed wherever people can access them, and most people live around the Coast. Stainless Steel is naturally corrosion resistant to pollution and sea spray which means they will not rust or breakdown over time. They are low maintenance barriers that maintain their integrity. Stainless Steel Grade 316 can be used in “Splash Zones” in coastal locations which can help prevent access to critical assets along the coast.
Anti-climb mesh can be used in several locations such as:
  • Airport Security to prevent unauthorised people into quarantined spaces
  • Bonded storage where items that are duty free are stored
  • Detention Centres where they are trying to stop movements in and out.
  • Critical Infrastructure like Electrical sub stations
  • Locations where restricted access is required like bridges and roof tops
This is similar to a lot of mesh naming convections.
  • 3 stands for three inch wide (75mm) opening in the Horizontal
  • 5 stands for half (0.5) inches wide (13mm) opening in the Vertical
  • 8 stands for Standard Wire Guage (SWG) of 8-guage (4mm)
Within the fencing industry this is known as 358 Mesh. It is a heavy wire (4mm) welded mesh that is virtually unclimbable due to the wire spacings (13mm). It is often used in high security locations or where access must be prevented.

No. We only cut across the width of the roll once. To enable speed to market, we have all specifications in pre-cut 2 m rolls in 1245mm wide and 10m rolls in widths above 1550mm, which are ready to be dispatched upon order.
