What is the Solution for Roof Safety Mesh in Australia’s harsh environment?

SSWM Roof Safety Mesh info

Stainless Steel Roof Safety Mesh provides fall protection during construction and maintenance for the life of the building.

Whether it be a coastal shed, industrial warehouse or water storage building it’s a harsh environment.

Stainless steel is the solution to the corrosion of roof safety mesh and will cope with the Australian environment for the life of the building. Galvanised products do corrode and cannot provide adequate protection. Don’t take a short cut when you know there is a safer and longer lasting alternative.

We have also developed PVC Coated Stainless Steel Roof Mesh to prevent the galvanic reaction between dissimilar metals

Safety & Statistics
Every person who leaves for work in the morning should expect to return home at night in good health. Working at heights is a dangerous occupation. Every year, people are killed or seriously injured by falls from heights in the home, on building sites and in many other industrial situations.

The most serious injuries and the majority of deaths result, as you would expect, from falls from heights of 2m or more, often onto concrete. Statistics from Safe Work Australia show that, in the 12 years from 2002/03 to 2013/14, 47 workers died as a result of falls from roofs and balconies.

That is an average of four deaths per year, which may not seem to be a large number, but bear in mind that many more workers who fell from heights sustained serious injuries that required lengthy hospitalisation and left them with permanent physical and/or mental scars.

One of the most common fall problems in the construction industry is falls through the roof during construction, or during post-construction maintenance or repair.

A simple, but very effective way to prevent death and serious injury due to these falls is to install roof safety mesh which has the added advantage of preventing the fall of roofing sheets, another potential cause of death or serious injury. Thus providing a critical element in the hierarchy of control to reduce the potential for a fall resulting in serious injury or death.

Australian Standard AS/NZS 4389:2015 – Roof Safety Mesh explained

stainless steel roof safety mesh testing

Roof safety mesh should meet the requirements of AS/NZS 4389:2015 – Safety Mesh. This standard provides a specification for the mesh and also for the load testing of the mesh, which involves the dropping of a 166kgm, 1500mm long, 350mm diameter bag onto installed mesh from a height of 1.4m, as seen to the right.
